Attendee Created Pathtags for Living Skies 2014

PathTag PreviewOne of the great things about geocaching mega events is the excitement it generates, and and the spinoffs that it inspires with those planning to attend. We on the organizing committee were completely unaware of some great pathtag designs being created by our attendees, and were impressed to see these. So for those that enjoy seeing and trading pathtags, we thought we’d show the ones we know about so far.

Back in January 2014, Living Skies 2014 featured an interview with the owner of Canada’s oldest unfound geocache listing “SK Extreme 01”, a Virtual Cache in northern Saskatchewan.

At 9:55 AM on Thursday, June 19, 2014, this long-standing pillar of geocaching in Saskatchewan had at last been found! It wasn’t for another few hours before the news was phoned into the owner, due to the remoteness of the location.

Living Skies 2014 committee member Nezgar took some time today to interview “Team BOSS” which consisted of bennykidd, olemaz, sasktravelbugs, and scratch1 about their adventure, and what it took to achieve this monumental accomplishment. All of them will be present at the Living Skies 2014 MEGA, so you can meet them in person! Be sure to check out sasktravelbugs’ adventure geocaching session as well.

This weekend is the Windscape Kite Festival. Kite enthusiasts from all over Canada, the U.S., and even the Netherlands have convened in Swift Current to celebrate the event’s tenth year.

Kites made by the ‘celebrity flyers’ as large as 45 metres long are being flown and are amazing to watch. There are even demonstrations taking place, like a group who flies quad string kites together in formations, set to music! We’ve never seen anything like it. It is truly mind blowing.

With SCAR 2014 just around the corner, we thought we’d feature one of the highlights from SCAR in 2012. Hidden by Houlagans in 2012, this series of 134 caches was one of the most notable when the caches for 2012’s Saskatoon Cache & Release event were published, and was a major contributor to that years record of 513 new geocaches.

I’m sure many of you are interested to know what we’re up to. Things are getting crazy with just over 30 days to go until the big day! We’ve received a big order of caches, and we’re beginning to get them placed. We are also proud to announce the name of our Southern Saskatchewan series: the “Prairie Storms Adventure Trail“! We plan to have this series published within the next two weeks.

Enjoy the hidden secrets of Southern Saskatchewan by getting off the beaten trail to sites seldom visited, scenic views, historic sites and buildings. The name also pays tribute to the Alberta’s “Prairie Winds Adventure Trail” which was created for the Best of the Bad (WestCan 1) MEGA event in 2011.
