April Geocacher of the Month: hurleyanne

April 2014 North American Geocacher of the MonthIt’s official – Groundspeak has announced today on the geocaching blog that out of the three nominees, and the only one from Canada, Saskatchewan’s own hurleyanne had received the most votes, and was awarded the coveted title of “Geocacher of the Month for April 2014” !!!

Initially nominated by Delaronde_Hillbillies, the vote comments flowed in from geocachers all over Saskatchewan and beyond to share their stories of why they believed hurleyanne was so deserving of the designation. Thanks to everyone who voted, this is a prestigious award indeed.

Geocoin Cutoff Extended to Monday!

Due to popular demand, the Geocoin cutoff has been extended to Monday, May 26th, 2014! After 11:59PM CST on Monday, that’s it – no more! This is for all geocoins, including Living Skies Regular & Pre-order, Geocoin Event, and WestCan1 & 2 Geocoin Event.

Rosthern Area Attractions

A great feature of geocaching is the opportunity it presents to have new experiences and learn about an area.  While we will all be in Rosthern primarily to experience the Mega event and find a boat load of geocaches, the area also has a lot to offer in the way of historic sites, museums, and activities. Geocoin Cut Off Fast Approaching!

The deadline for ordering geocoins along with your registration is almost here!  Friday, May 23rd is the cut off.

If you have yet to register and think you would like coins, please do so before this date to guarantee yourself the coins!  A limited number of the event geocoins will be available at the event, and of course, if you want the special edition coin, you have to volunteer!

If you have already registered and did not purchase coins or would like more, you can go through the registration link again, ordering only coins and we’ll match your orders together.

The deadline for ordering t-shirts is also coming up quickly – June 14.  Check out the new counters on the sidebar.

If you plan to come to the event, but do not wish to do a paid registration, please use the free registration process just to let us know you are coming.

Scenic Saskatchewan Sunday – Wind Power

Southwest Saskatchewan Wind Farm

Southwest Saskatchewan is, without a doubt, the wind generating capital of the entire province. There are four wind farm power stations in all of Saskatchewan and three of the four are found there. One of which is the largest operating wind power facility in western Canada. Geocacher Penquin99 is from that area and has shared following information about the area, and some of the great geocaches to be found.

Saskatchewan Skies GeoTourSome exiting news, the Cypress Hills Destination Area has today announced Saskatchewan’s first GeoTour! It consists of 38 geocaches in the southwest of the province, spread across very diverse landscapes and natural wonders. If you are passing through this area on your way to or from the MEGA event in Rosthern, definitely check out some of the caches in the area!
